Veneto West Studio is a commercial recording facility in Westside Los Angeles, just a few miles from Venice Beach and the Santa Monica pier and a short walk from the Sony Culver Film Studios. The studio was built by producer Ronan Chris Murphy and has attracted clients from around the world as well as the Los Angeles area.

Artists that have been recorded or mixed at Veneto West include Robert Fripp, Tony Levin, Jeff Gauthier, Jerry Marotta, Pat Mastelotto Anthony Curtis, Ulver, Tom McCrae, Lewis Pragasam, Ronan Chris Murphy, Mike Keneally, The California Guitar Trio and many others.

Built into a 1940s commercial building, the studio is all about relaxed vibe and high quality gear; from the incense burning on the wine rack to the collection of high end boutique recording gear, instruments and amplifiers. There is a spacious control room and live room and other smaller recording spaces and of course a small Playstation lounge.

The main live room, was formerly an Islamic book shop before being converted into part of the studio and you can still see some of the book shelves that were left in the renovation. Perhaps it is the complex shape of the bookshelves and the odd angles of the 1940s architecture but the room has become a favorite of many drummers. The bright sound and short natural decay really seems to compliment pop, rock and fusion drum sounds and many drum tracks cut in the studio need no additional effects in the final mix.

Several busy LA session drummers have described the room as one of the best sounding drum rooms in Los Angeles. This combined with Ronans experience as the man behind the boards for the likes of Terry Bozzio, Pat Mastelotto, Bill Brufford, Greg Bissonette Lewis Pragasam and many others has made the studio a favorite of many drummers from around the world.

Veneto West is the perfect place for artists that want something more comfortable than stuffy corporate big studios, but do not want to sacrifice quality and work in some ones garage or basement with low end gear. Veneto West is a homey studio without the awkwardness of working in some ones home.

The gear is often changing but the technical heart of the studio is a vintage D&R series 4000 analog console (which has the fun history of being the console Ice-T did his last album on and owned by R&B hit maker Bobby Ross Avila to record and mix several hits) and a collection of specialized gear from Manley, A Designs, Empirical Labs, Little Labs, Rivera, Jule as well as unique instruments such as a hand made Harmonium from India and funky vintage Lowery Magic Genie Organ. The studio runs multiple pro tools rigs including TDM and LE systems and features mics from Microtech Geffell (with a Neuman M7 capsule) Shure, Electro-Voice, and Sennheiser .

We occasionally take advantage of LAs great rental facilities and can rent in additional recording gear and instruments for projects as needed. Any specific gear that might be needed or desired can be rented for a modest price.

Although there are studios popping up all over the place that are mostly an entry level computer system, a few cheap Chinese mics and plug ins instead of real effects and amps in some ones basement, all those compromises make a difference in the final product. Veneto West has made the investment in large recording spaces and great equipment because the final product matters.
